What is Matemium?
Matemium is an agentic desktop studio for turning structured knowledge into visual stories. It combines project planning, AI-assisted authoring, a layout-to-animation compiler, local rendering, and output management.
Mathematics is where Matemium began because equations, graphs, geometric objects, and precise spatial relationships place unusually high demands on an animation system. The same underlying model can be used for physics, chemistry, computing, engineering, economics, biology, history, philosophy, language learning, and other structured explanations.
What makes it different?
Section titled “What makes it different?”Traditional animation tools begin with a timeline. Matemium begins with the structure of the idea.
Production-aware agent
The agent works through a project description, production path, roadmap, authoring, rendering, and repair instead of treating everything as one prompt.
Local rendering
Manim compilation, LaTeX typesetting, video encoding, and project files remain on your computer.
2D and 3D together
Text, diagrams, plots, surfaces, solids, multiple tapes, and camera inspection can inhabit one continuous visual world.

Matemium is not intended to replace a general nonlinear video editor. It is strongest when the content has an explainable structure: steps, relationships, states, causes, comparisons, or spatial objects.
What stays local?
Section titled “What stays local?”The desktop application owns the workspace and launches the bundled rendering engine. Rendering does not require uploading your project or generated media to Matemium.
Optional AI assistance uses either:
- A provider account you connect, with OpenRouter as the default path; or
- A compatible local model managed on your computer.
Matemium does not sell model credits or provide a shared model quota.
Source availability and ownership
Section titled “Source availability and ownership”Matemium is free to use under the Matemium Source-Available License. You may inspect the source, learn from it, use it for permitted purposes, modify it privately, and contribute to the official project.
The lessons, videos, images, scripts, and other original material you create with Matemium remain yours, including for commercial use.
